Andrew Lloyd Webber has established a YouTube channel “The Shows Must Go On!” and plans to release one movie adaptation of his musicals per week. They will all be free to view, starting Fridays and ending 48 hours later.
The entire schedule is still under wraps, but first up this weekend is the 2000 film Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat starring Donnie Osmond, followed by the 2012 U.K. arena tour production of Jesus Christ Superstar, in time for Easter, on April 10.
The rest of the schedule has not been announced, although Webber, in making the announcement, revealed that he is most excited that By Jeeves will be in the mix.
Playbill reports that “clips of famous performances and behind-the-scenes footage will be uploaded to the channel regularly. The streams will help support a variety of organizations during the coronavirus pandemic, encouraging viewers to donate to Acting for Others, Broadway Cares, Actors Benevolent Fund, and more.”
