This is THE anthem of THE American civil rights movement that many other movements for civil rights around the world have adopted. You will have heard it sung in documentaries and the news coverage of protests from the 1960s. Listen to this version. It’s heart-searing. It soars.

The arrangement written by this young lady (a very poised Jordan Millar, 13 years old!) is lovely. Her achievement should be universally celebrated and appreciated. Listening to it will leave you shaken. But it is hard to listen to this proud and hopeful rendition (well designed, well coiffed, without sweat or water hoses) knowing that its soul-affirming, courage-building words are not merely still needed, but still challenged.
May the day soon come when this song can be appreciated as a very moving, but merely historic, aesthetic experience.
