Tonight, DC Theatre Scene holds its first live streamed event, starting at 7pm, on the DCTS Facebook page.
The last few months have been hard in the theatre community, with many reckonings and revelations. While it has been a time of transformation, it has been particularly difficult on BIPOC women, femmes and nonbinary folx, who are often tasked with much of the labor of pushing for change, as well as the herculean emotional labor of supporting and educating their white and male peers. Even after all that work, we often do not give them a seat at the table; they still have to fight for that inclusion. This is even more especially egregious in our treatment of our gender diverse black and indigenous family.
So tonight we celebrate by listening in on the voices that are so often excluded, despite the immeasurable number of contributions made to said community.
Tune in tonight at 7pm on the DC Theatre Scene Facebook page. Made available for viewing afterwards if you’re not able to attend tonight.
This begins, hopefully, a series of conversations and interviews with our gender diverse black theatre community, highlighting their efforts and issues facing them. We listen in the hopes that we can do more for them.
