We hope you can tune in to YouTube tonight as the Washington theatre community comes together in loving tribute to Victor Shargai, long-time leader of theatreWashington, and generous friend and benefactor to many artists and theatre companies.
A champion of the wide spectrum of work done by Washington area artists, Shargai, who passed away on December 24, 2019, was a constant, beaming presence at opening nights.
His early classes were for acting and dance, eventually studying at The Old Vic and with Bertolt Brecht. He once said, “I think theatre, of all the performing arts, is the most approachable.” Approach it, he did as we detailed in Victor Shargai, a Life in the Theatre.
While theatreWashington, which is producing the event, is keeping the roster of celebrants under wraps until tonight, they have revealed that the celebration will include some of Shargai’s favorite performers.
