DC Theatre Scene, Inc. has opened a search for a new Editor. Now in its 15th year, DC Theatre Scene has published nearly 10,000 articles covering Washington area’s theatre scene as it grew from an emerging regional presence of barely 30 producing companies into a theatre scene with more than 80 companies who draw from the rich pool of professional artists making the DC-area their home.
In this time of reflection and renewal, it’s time to create a new journalistic vision for DC Theatre Scene. In that spirit, DC Theatre Scene seeks an Editor who will help create that vision and have complete editorial management responsibility over its implementation.
We are looking for someone with passion for live theatre, who is familiar with Washington-area companies, who can write compelling content, and assign, edit and post the work of DC Theatre Scene’s writers and guests.
This is an equal opportunity position. We invite anyone for whom that description resonates to be in touch with us.
Lorraine Treanor, as the present Editor and Publisher, will remain responsible for the fiscal, legal and technical operation of the website and will be available during the transition.
While being in the Editor’s chair is a vastly rewarding and fulfilling experience, at this time the position is not a paid one. Advertising revenues from theatre producers has been the major source of income. Once theatres re-open, we expect to be able to return to compensating the Editor and staff with modest stipends.
There is the possibility that, as a non-profit media organization whose mission is to cover professional theatre in the area, additional funding could be sought.
