About this event:
Rita has only one problem – everyone else! An Irish ghost story with a haunted hearing aid, a disappearing grand-daughter, a centenarian’s midnight party and a VERY difficult cat.
Coordinated by Kristy Simmons, New Works in Action presents two performances of Can’t Complain, a new play by Christine Evans, August 16 (8:00PM) and 17 (3:00PM).
Admission is free. Please stay for the talk-back after the show and become part of the development process!
“I wanted to write a play with a ripping role for a mature actress. We have so many stellar women of the stage, and often the roles they’re offered are trivial, or secondary to a man’s journey,” remembers Christine. “So that factored in, Can’t Complain has three generations of women in it. It’s written for a cast of four women and one man. Women can be funny and heartbreaking and devious and complex and struggle for power and love, and I wanted to put that on stage.”
With Hilary Kacser, Caren Hearne, Natasha Gallop, Ron Heneghan and Wendy Wilmer. Directed by Richard Henrich.
