Presented by Annapolis Shakespeare Theatre
The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)
by Adam Long, Daniel Singer and Jess Winfield
Directed by Sally Boyett
Life is short. The complete works of Shakespeare are long. To the rescue: The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)performed by three of Annapolis Shakespeare Company’s brightest and funniest. They wrap up the Bard’s outsized oeuvre in 90 rib-tickling, madcap minutes. After warming up with a nothing-is-sacred send-up of Romeo and Juliet, they’re off, dispensing with the comedies in one fell swoop — because the tragedies are funnier. Othellobecomes a rap song, Titus Andronicus, a cooking show, and the show’s unforgettable finale, Hamlet, is told with the help of audience members and lascivious sock puppets. While the most theater-adverse will appreciate a version of Hamlet that clocks in at a whopping 43 seconds, more scholarly types will love the many winking references to their favorite stories and Bard trivia.
Enjoy the zany tour de force performed by the Annapolis Shakespeare Company in the outdoor courtyard at Reynolds Tavern.
