This “entirely fresh, funny and gorgeous new production” (New York Magazine) of Fiddler on the Roof arrives at the National Theatre hot off its latest acclaimed Broadway run. This re-imagined American classic tells the heartwarming story of Tevye, a humble Jewish dairyman who’s tested daily by his five tradition-defying daughters. But when dangerous forces threaten the Russian village’s way of life, Tevye’s faith and love for his family give him strength to fight for his home and the traditions of his people. The Jerry Bock-Sheldon Harnick score boasts all-time faves like “Tradition,” “Matchmaker, Matchmaker,” “If I Were a Rich Man” and “Sunrise, Sunset,” not to mention the rousing “Bottle Dance” number.
The original production won ten Tony Awards, including a special Tony for becoming the longest-running Broadway musical of all time. You’ll be there when the sun rises on this new production, with stunning movement and dance from acclaimed Israeli choreographer Hofesh Shechter, based on the original staging by Jerome Robbins. A wonderful cast and lavish orchestra tell this heartwarming story of fathers and daughters, husbands and wives, and the timeless traditions that define faith and family.
