Through a series of “swiftly changing spectacular scenes” (Russia’s Teatral), Shakespeare’s classic play becomes a mirror of modern society in a dexterously crafted adaption from director Declan Donnellan, designer Nick Ormerod, English theater company Cheek by Jowl, and the Pushkin Theatre Moscow.
With a unique brew of humor and high seriousness, the story dissects the nature of justice, mercy, and virtue—asking unsettling questions about how we are governed and the relationships between those in power, and those not.
