Torquato Tasso’s epic poem Jerusalem Delivered is a classic tale of love, bravery, and combat. This program offers a look at how two baroque composers, Alessandro Scarlatti and Francesco Geminiani, interpret this passionate tale.
In the first half of the production, the American premiere of Alessandro Scarlatti’s last major secular vocal work, Erminia, the titular princess seeks refuge from the wounds of love in the midst of battle. Will she find solace and safety?
The second half of the program brings to life Francesco Geminiani’s most famous instrumental composition, La forêt enchantée (The Enchanted Forest) performed in its original version as a dance pantomime, choreographed by the extraordinary Anuradha Nehru with Kalanidhi Dance. Enchantresses are conjured to keep the wood of the forest from being used for weapons – will the charm be broken?
