Natascia Diaz, winner of last year’s Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in Metro Stage’s ROOMS, a rock romance, will be assuming the lead role of Susy Branch when Metro Stage’s new season officially opens Sunday, September 12th with the romantic musical Glimpses of the Moon.
Based on the novel by Edith Wharton, the world premiere Jazz Age musical follows the misadventures of two young friends: “Popular but penniless, Susy and her friend Nick devise the ultimate fundraising scheme—to marry and live off the wedding presents, while they help one another look for suitable millionaires. The plan works perfectly — until they fall in love.”
New York actress Lauren “Coco” Cohn will be seen in the roles originally cast for Ms. Diaz. The rest of the ensemble are four of Washington’s favorite musical performers: Sam Ludwig ([title of show], Sweeney Todd), Matthew A. Anderson (The Musical of Musicals: The Musical!), Gia Mora (Cool Papa’s Party, She Loves Me (Arena Stage)), and Stephen F. Schmidt (Urinetown (Helen Hayes winner), The Music Man).
As a result of these recent cast changes, Metro Stage has altered its preview schedule; there will be no performances Wednesday and Thursday. There will be a preview pay what you can performance on Friday, Sept 10 at 8pm. Discounted $25 preview tickets will follow on Saturday at 3pm and 8pm and on Sunday, Sept 13th at the 3pm matinee, immediately followed with a talk back discussion with the show’s playwright (Tajlei Levis) and composer (John Mercurio) led by DCTS columnist Joel Markowitz.
Glimpses of the Moon is scheduled to run thru Oct 17, 2010 at Metro Stage, 1201 North Royal St, Alexandria, VA.
