DC Metro Theatre Arts Senior Reviewer Wendi Winters was one of the five people killed by a gunman in the offices of The Capital Gazette yesterday, DC Metro Theatre Arts reported today.

Winters, 65, was an editor and community reporter at the Gazette, according to CNN.com, and has written reviews for DCMTA since 2014. Here is the archive of her work with DCMTA.
“We consider ourselves a family at DC Metro Theater Arts and Wendi was a part of that family. We are devastated to learn of her passing,” DCMTA Publisher and Editor-in-Chief Nicole Hertvik said of Winters in this statement.
Winters had a degree in fashion design from Virginia Commonwealth University, according to CNN. Her LinkedIn profile showed experience in retail, wholesale, public relations, and modeling. In addition to her work at DCMTA, Winters was active in the Girl Scouts and the Red Cross, and CNN noted that she organized an annual Annapolis event in which journalists and public relations professionals could meet and talk to each other.
Other fatalities were Rebecca Smith, John McNamara, Gerald Fischman and Robert Hiaasen, brother of the novelist Carl Hiassen. Police have arrested Jarrod Warren Ramos, who had earlier unsuccessfully sued the Gazette for slander after it published an article concerning his conviction for criminal harassment.
