Our Award: 5 Fringes

“How was it for you?” asks lyricist Fran Landesman in the opening song of the immensely entertaining review, Queen of The Bohemian Dream, now playing at Source Theatre during the Fringe Festival.
I’ll tell you how it was for me and the audience – we loved it!
This show may be the crowning achievement of this year’s Fringe Festival.
From Bobby Smith’s smooth, toe-tapping “Feet Do Your Stuff,” to Tracy McMullan’s heart wrenching “Down,” to Margo Seibert’s gorgeous singing of “Revelations” and “Love’s Eyes,” you are sucked into those brilliant Sondheim-like lyrics of this brilliant lyricist:
“Don’t be ashamed
Everybody’s got scars
From our various wars
On the way to the stars.”
And can this brilliant cast, (who we have seen perform in many local productions) sing the heck out of these lyrics. Just watch them sell a song! And you get 18 of these glorious masterpieces-what a deal!
And to hear the real Fran Landesman sing a parody of “I’ll Be Seeing You” (My all-time favorite song) is the extra cherry on the top of this luscious sundae!
“Did I make your heart go boom boom boom?
Do you want to do it again?”
Damn right! I’ll be back to see Queen of the Bohemian Dream again. It’s a royal treat you better not miss! Get off your thrones and buy tickets now before the word of mouth makes these tickets very scarce. Bravo your Royal Highness!
(Running Time: 50 minutes)
I forgot to mention in my review that the show is directed by Michael Bobbitt. This man is a genius! Sorry Michael.
I think it’s awesome that DC Theatre Scene is reviewing Fringe shows! For a new theatre company like ours, the more press you can get, the better. In fact, we’d love for you to come review our show. Molotov Theatre Group is producing our first show as part of the Fringe. If any of the reviewers from DC Theatre Scene, or any other publication, would like to come review our show, email me through our website, http://www.molotovtheatre.com, and we’ll reserve a ticket for you!
By the way – Queen of the Bohemian Dream was absolutely terrific! A must see in my book.
Deborah- Personally I’m really happy to see folks reveiw the various Fringe shows.
There are so many shows being offered that its really helpful to have these reviews to help navigate ones choices.
You know, I am a bit disappointed that you guys are “reviewing”
Fringe shows! I thought that this was a chance to experiment and produce things without the scrutiny of reviewers!
