The Actors’ Center, a 30-year-old non-profit membership organization, today announced that it will stage auditions exclusively for Actor’s Center members on April 9 and 10, between 10 am and 4 pm. The Center states that approximately “40-50 casting directors from theatre and film audit the auditions.”
The Center will arrange for 216 audition slots, and will select auditioners at random by lottery from among those who register at the Center’s website. Registration closes on March 23 at 11.59 p.m. The Center says that it will make the selection “on or about March 25.”
Auditioners will have two minutes to perform one or two monologues, or a monologue and a song. The Center will provide an accompanist for those who wish one.
Auditioners should come prepared with materials that are fully memorized and rehearsed, bring 40 to 50 headshots and resumes, and “dress professionally, and in clothes that make you feel comfortable and confident.” The Center recommends against high heels. “Make sure you can make it safely to the stage – you don’t want to kill your audition just trying to get to the stage.”
According to the Actors’ Center release, the auditions have been quite successful in the past. “The casting directors are looking for fresh faces. Lots of members get callbacks; some almost immediately, others throughout the year. Members have been cast in Shear Madness at the Kennedy Center and in shows at Fords, and of course at smaller theatres and in film projects.”
While the auditions will be open only to Actors’ Center members, membership in the Actor’s Center is available at $60 per year on the Center’s website.
