Quest Visual Theatre, the Maryland-based company which specializes in bringing unusual forms of theatrical expression to families, will be presenting QuestFest 2012 to Washington-area audiences between March 27 and April 8.
The productions will range from the stylings of a balloon artist to a production of Medea by a theater from Tehran which features the work of physically challenged artists.
The schedule of events is as follows:
On Tuesday, March 27, at 3 PM at Imagination Stage (4908 Auburn Avenue, Bethesda MD), QuestFest will feature Catalonia’s Los Caneca Show, which features “acrobatics, juggling, humor and audience participation,” according to Festival promoters. Los Caneca will also appear at the Gallaudet mall on March 30 at noon and
A street theater group, also from Catalonia, called Chez Leandre, will appear at 4 PM at Imagination Stage and also at the Bethesda Barnes and Noble (4801 Bethesda Avenue). Festival promoters say that Chez Leandre will present a “mixture of humor, poetry, drama, clowning and public interaction” at those locations and also at Occupy Washington Freedom Plaza (Pennsylvania Avenue between 13th and 14th Streets NW) at noon on the 28th, and Gallaudet Mall at noon on the 29th.
Balloonmeisters Brian Sostek and Barry Kornhauser will present “Balloonacy”, which Festival promoters note is “very popular with pre-school age children”, at Joe’s Movement Emporium (3309 Bunker Hill Road, Mt. Rainier, MD.) at 10 AM on March 29 and also on April 1 at 1 and 3 p.m. at the same location.
Dan Kamin, a visual comedian, will present “Mr. Slo-Mo” (you can guess what that’s about) at the Gallaudet mall on March 29 at 1 p.m.
Drew Richardson, who bills himself “The Dramatic Fool”, will present “What the Fool!?!” on March 29 at 8 p.m. and March 30 at 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. at Joe’s Movement Emporium.
Cherry Puppet Theater will present the puppet drama Between Mean at the Creative Alliance in Baltimore (3134 Eastern Avenue) at 8 p.m. on March 30.
Parallel Exit, a movement theater company from New York, will present Exit Stage Left at Joe’s Movement Emporium on April 4 at 8 p.m., April 5 at 2 p.m., and April 7 at 9 p.m.
Glasgow’s Ramesh Meyyappan will perform his “Gin and Tonic” at Joe’s Movement Emporium on April 5 at 8 p.m., April 6 at 7p.m., and April 7 at 7.
The Mehr Aeen Disabled Theater Association of Tehran will perform its production of Medea at Joe’s Movement Emporium on April 7 at 4 p.m. and April 8 at 2 p.m.
Quest Visual Theater will perform its own Mosaic at Joe’s Movement Emporium on April 6 at 9 p.m. and April 7 at 1 p.m.
Fireflies, a presentation of Baltimore-area artists, will be staged at Creative Alliance on April 6 at 8 p.m.
Quest Visual Theater and Gallaudet will co-produce a free day of Quest presentations on the Gallaudet University mall on Saturday, March 31. The open-air festival will include Chez Leandre, Los Caneca Show, Happenstance Theatre’s Plunkett & Tremolo, Fun with Fabric by Quest, Mr. Slo-Mo by Dan Kamin and a Stiltwalking Workshop by Nano Project
QuestFest is a collaboration among Quest Visual Theater, Joe’s Movement Emporium, Imagination Stage, and The Theatre Project and the Creative Alliance in Baltimore.
